Alabama A&M student-athletes enjoy successful spring in classroom

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M's athletic programs enjoyed a successful spring, with the softball team winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference's East Division title and the men's tennis team playing for a conference championship.

But athletic competition was not the only area where Alabama A&M student-athletes thrived.

Alabama A&M student-athletes enjoyed a successful spring semester in the classroom, posting a 3.07 grade-point average (GPA) for the term with a 3.20 cumulative GPA.

Eight Alabama A&M athletic programs posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester, and 10 of 16 athletic programs have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

During the spring semester, the women's tennis team led all Alabama A&M athletic programs with a 3.4 GPA. Other programs with a spring semester GPA above a 3.0 were women's basketball (3.32), men's golf (3.308), men's tennis (3.24), women's soccer (3.31), women's volleyball (3.11) and softball (3.24).

The women's tennis program leads all Alabama A&M athletic programs with a cumulative 3.57 GPA through the spring semester. Other programs with a cumulative GPA above a 3.0 are women's basketball (3.45), women's volleyball (3.09), men's golf (3.345), men's tennis (3.46), women's tennis (3.57), bowling (3.35), women's soccer (3.35), women's track ( 3.09), softball (3.3) and baseball (3.13).

Alabama A&M graduated 26 student-athletes during the spring semester.
